Congratulations to Annie, Hanna, and Brianna on their graduation with degrees in Biology! We are so proud of you and are excited to see where you go next!
Life as a Lab Assistant
Every lab needs an assistant to help collect samples, analyze data, and make sure everyone is having fun. Garp, the original Becklin Lab assistant, was pretty good at one of those tasks. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Garp this winter after 14 years of companionship in the field.
The end of another a successful field season!
Congratulations to Brianna, Sarah, and Katie on a successful field season! Despite a snowy start, the crew made a lot of progress studying spatial patterns in plant-microbe interactions on Pennsylvania Mountain.
Burro Days are Back!
Spectators, runners, burros, and llamas descended upon Fairplay to celebrate the town’s mining history. Katie joined in the festivities by running the 5K llama race with this handsome guy.
Snow Day in June
Katie and Sarah arrived in Colorado to cold weather and 12 foot snowdrifts. Hopefully it warms up soon!
Brianna receives WiSE fellowship
Brianna began working in the Becklin Lab during her first year at SU as part of SUSTAIN, an early lab immersion program. This summer Brianna was awarded a Women in Science and Engineering fellowship to continue her research in Colorado. Congratulations, Brianna!
Sarah awarded EMPOWER fellowship!
Sarah was awarded an EMPOWER fellowship through the NSF NRT program. This interdisciplinary training program prepares students with the technical knowledge and professional skills needed to compete for careers focused on problems at the intersection of energy, water, and the environment. Congratulations Sarah!
Students present at SU Symposium
After a summer in the field, Isabelle and Brianna present their research at the SU Undergraduate Research Symposium. Awesome job!
First day on Pennsylvania Mountain
Katie and Isabelle head to Colorado for the start of the field season. Isabelle was just a little excited to be in the mountains.
