Becklin Lab receives MONet funding

The Becklin Lab is collaborating with Dr. Emily Mooney at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and Dr. Shane Heschel at Colorado College on a new project linking plant and soil functional properties across a snowmelt gradient. This project is part of the DOE-funded Molecular Observation Network (MONet) that aims to increase our understanding of climate effects on soil function. Learn more about MONet here:

Scientists gather at Penn State for the Changing Microbiomes Symposium

Over 100 leading scientists congregated at Penn State University for the Changing Microbiomes Symposium in May. Talks explored how microbiomes are changing due to natural and human-driven processes, and how targeted microbiome modification can drive the functional output of natural and managed systems. Sarah and Katie presented research from the Becklin Lab at the symposium.

It’s Graduation Day!

Four members of the Becklin Lab graduated from Syracuse University this weekend. Congratulations to Alex, Elena, Laurel, and Marjona and good luck on your next endeavor!

Elena and Alex recognized for their research accomplishments

Congratulations to our graduating seniors on their research accomplishments. Elena received the Outstanding Achievement in Biotechnology award for her research on CO2 threshold responses in native and invasive grasses. Alex received the Academic and Research Accomplishments award from the Biology Department for her research on ant effects on soil characteristics and microbial communities.

BREW@SU research internship in the Becklin Lab

Alex Krause and Seth McCaffery, students from OCC, completed a week-long internship in the Becklin Lab as part of the new BREW@SU program. Thank you to Alex and Seth for their hard work, curiosity, and infectious energy. Who knew sieving and measuring roots could be so much fun!
